More than a dozen downtown business owners met on Feb. 6th for the first organizational meeting of an independent Monticello Downtown Business Association. If you are a downtown business owner or building/property owner and would like to be on our contact list for future meetings, simply request to be added to our eList and provide us with your email address. Send your request to the group's administrative contact at: Lynne@DesignforPrint.com

Bob H. (Crostini Grille) organized the initial meeting and future meetings will be held at his restaurant meeting room. We are currently in the early stages of developing this group's independent organizational structure.

If you are interested in participating please contact us today so we can include your input and feedback on issues related to Monticello downtown businesses.

Are you familiar with what Cokato did recently? They used a program to help them evaluate their city using volunteers from another city. They invited these people to come and evaluate their ‘first impressions’ of the downtown area and/or the city as a whole. I think they had people from Gaylord come and then they sent people to do the same from Cokato to Gaylord.

There is a website with all the info and also the documents to walk you through the program. It’s based out of Canada and I’m not officially recommending that Monticello do this, but thought the info was something that you might be interested in checking out.

Thanks for the suggestion of "first impression" evaluations. Michele Bachman's office provided our group with a similar web link whereby sister communities do the same thing. For example, Monticello would visit another city and provide comment on their impressions of the community and that city would do the same for Monticello by visiting our town. This provides an objective viewpoint to how a city is viewed by an outsider. Great suggestion which we will pursue as a Monticello Downtown Business Group.

A follow-up meeting was held as the second organizational meeting for the newly formed Monticello Downtown Business group (name yet to be determined). A Mission Statement was unanimously agreed upon by those in attendance as follows:

To work to represent, unite, support and promote Monticello downtown business through a sense of community.

Specific organizational structure for the group will be discussed at a subsequent meeting.
